Livio Gigliuto, Vice President at Istituto Piepoli, guest of NewsRoom, Paolo Poggio's TV program broadcast on RaiNews24, to illustrate what Italians think of Christmas 2020 and what they would like to find under the tree.
This week Istituto Piepoli investigated Italians’ sentiment on the measures adopted by the Government, approved by 60% of the sample, especially in Central-Southern Italy.
On what Christmas 2020 will be like, 1/3 of Italians respond that it will be almost similar to the previous one, with 40% of respondents not experiencing it so badly and a very strong share saying it will be worse due to the emergency and the inability to reunite with family members. A marginal part of the sample, on the other hand, considers Christmas 2020 to be better than the previous one thanks to positive events that occurred in the family (new births, including).
And on the front of gifts, to give and to receive, what does the sample interviewed think?
Livio Gigliuto, Vice President at Istituto Piepoli, says 47% of Italians think they are giving fewer gifts, 50% of them think they will receive less.
Danda Santini, Director at IoDonna, points out that Italians are a bit melodramatic by nature, because last year we complained about Christmas dinners and the stress of an aperitif to exchange gifts; and today, we complain because we won’t be able to do it. However, we will all adapt quickly using our imagination. Christmas is always a celebration of feelings and affections that this year will be felt and made stronger.
Under the tree, Gigliuto says again, Italians want to find good health (42%), which even surpasses the end of the Covid19 emergency (37%). And what would they like to find as a gift next year, if they think about Italy? The end of the emergency 52% of the sample, the recovery of employment 17%, the revival of the economy 8%, less taxes for citizens and businesses 7% and the stability of the Government 4%.
